Inspired by the great tradition of boys’ choir schools in Europe, whose origins go back to the sixth century, the Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal were founded in 1956 by Father Léandre Brault, CSC. From the beginning, the choir's mission has been to enrich the religious services at Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal through sacred singing. There are over 210 boys in the choir, aged eight to seventeen. Although their cultural backgrounds are varied, they all share a common passion for song. At the choir school, they explore great polyphonic works from across the ages and around the world. Their repertoire ranges from Gregorian chant to contemporary choral works.

Throughout the year, the Petits Chanteurs can be heard at more than seventy religious ceremonies at Saint Joseph’s Oratory, as well as at numerous concerts. The choir is often featured on radio and television programs, has been invited to perform in operas, and has presented concerts overseas. They have sung in Korea, Venezuela, Cuba and the United States, in addition to many European countries.

The Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal pursue an educational program that has flourished for sixty years. In addition to receiving three hours of daily musical instruction, elementary-level students are taught a regular curriculum. All study piano, vocal technique, ear training, and choral singing in sacred and secular repertoire. During high school, the boys' training includes enriching their repertoire and learning to write music.

Ms. Johanne Chantal is the general director of the program and Mr. Andrew Gray is the music and artistic director.
