Choirmaster: Jean-Sébastien Allaire
Choral conductor and music pedagogue, Jean-Sébastien Allaire was a chorister with Les Petits Chanteurs de Trois-Rivières and studied violin for nearly ten years before turning his attention to vocal training. Graduate from l’Université de Montréal in voice performance, he has performed with renowned ensembles such as the Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montréal (SMAM), the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Les Violons du Roy. He has toured in Canada, the United States, France and Mexico.
After earning a Master’s Degree in Conducting from McGill University (2000), scholarships from the Fondation Marie-Claude Desloges and the Austrian Society allowed him to continue his education in Graz Austria. Upon his return, he joined Concordia University’s Music Department (2001) and was Choral Conductor and Professor of Conducting at Carleton University (2005-2011). He has also held positions as Assistant Artistic Director for SMAM (2001-2006), Music Director at Erskine & American United Church (2001-2004),Choral Director at St. James United Church (2004-2016) and since January 2017, Music Director at St. George's Anglican Church.
M. Allaire has worked as a studio conductor with the Cirque du Soleil on soundtracks for two productions, KÀ and ZÈD, and was Choirmaster in the Stage Entertainment World Wide Tour Ice Age - Live: A Mammoth Adventure! He has directed many recording studios in Montreal and in Slovakia where he directed the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra on several occasions.
His first conducting appearance with Les Grands Ballets was in the production Falling Angels in 2017.
